Unlike some other medical procedures, Colonoscopy relies heavily on your cooperation with specific preparation instructions. When prepared appropriately, patients often report the day of the procedure as flowing smoothly without undue discomfort.
Preparation
Effective colonoscopies begin with thorough preparation. Because the exam is visual, the colon must be cleansed in advance to allow for thorough polyp detection and removal. Your physician will assign you one of several preparation procedures according to your needs as a patient. Given the importance of preparation, following the instructions for your specific preparation is vital.
The Day of Your Procedure
Please arrange for a ride to and from your procedure. You’ll need to arrive 30 minutes early at our front desk reception area. Your ride is permitted to wait there, or they can provide their phone number to our staff. Upon check-in, you’ll be led back by one of our nurses to be admitted and meet with your physician. Please have your ride save our office number (207-773-7964) in their phone, as we will be calling them 15-20 minutes before your discharge. After your procedure, you will speak with your doctor and meet up with your ride in our recovery area.
