In addition to providing expert gastro-intestinal care, several PGC physicians hold leadership positions in sub-specialty programs at the leading edge of the field. For example, Dr. Noemi Baffy is the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Governor for the State of Maine. Dr. Andreas Stefan is the Medical Director of Endoscopy at Maine Medical Center and is a highly specialized leader in treating pancreatic disorders at the Pancreaticobiliary Center at Maine Medical Center. Drs. Alan Kilby, Matthew Grunwald, and Kelly Pizzo specialize in hepatology and are integral members of Maine Medical Center’s Liver Disease Program at the Gilman Clinic.
The practice is also committed to implementing the latest techniques and technologies to enhance the care of our patients. Advancements implemented recently include:
- Use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help improve adenoma detection (finding polyps means reducing risk of colon cancer).
- A non-invasive imaging modality for monitoring liver disease called FibroScan.
Finally, the physicians of PGC also actively partner with respected medical institutions like Maine Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine to help educate a new generation of specialists in digestive medicine. And as participants in research projects and clinical trials, our doctors are helping to shape the future of digestive care.
