Portland Gastroenterology Center exists to provide high quality, compassionate care to patients with digestive health problems or concerns, and to maximize the professional and academic potential of its physicians and staff.

Portland Gastroenterology Center is one of New England’s largest gastroenterology facilities. We provide consultation services and treatment in our comprehensive, state-of-the-art Center. Physician offices and examination rooms are on the third floor, while the fourth floor houses our Endoscopy Center for colonoscopies and other procedures.
Recognized leadership
As participants in numerous research projects, our doctors have access to the latest techniques and technology. Our physicians are also leaders in specialized areas of expertise. For example, Dr. Douglas Howell is an international leader in treating pancreatic disorders and is director of the Pancreaticobiliary Center at Maine Medical Center. Dr. Alan Kilby is Maine’s top-ranking hepatologist and co-director of the Maine Medical Center Virology Treatment Center.
Our physicians are helping to educate a new generation of specialists:
- on staff at the University of Vermont College of Medicine
- teaching residents at Maine Medical Center
- offering advanced training fellowships in interventional endoscopy
We also have the distinction of being Maine’s first gastroenterology practice with an AAAHC-accredited endoscopy facility.
