General Summary of Duties
The Registered Nurse – Endoscopy will perform general nursing care to patients undergoing procedures in our ASC, and otherwise support effective and efficient operations of Portland Gastroenterology Center’s ASC and its functions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities for this position include any or all the following:
- Perform admission, endoscopy, or recovery nursing duties as assigned.
- Explain procedures and provide emotional support to patients to ensure their cooperation and to alleviate their apprehension.
- Administer medication in accordance with protocol.
- Provide support and assistance to physicians and technicians during procedures.
- Maintain awareness of comfort levels and safety needs of patients.
- Use monitoring devices and/or direct observation to determine and notify physicians of any significant changes in patients’ condition.
- Alert physicians of any condition or deviation from the required procedural preparation that could lead to some adverse reaction, following up with ASC Nurse Supervisor and/or Director of Clinical Operations when appropriate.
- Know location of and how to safely use emergency equipment.
- Participate in unit quality improvement activities, education, and/or experiences.
- Special assignments or projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- BS in Nursing from an accredited institution required, some graduate study preferred; and
- At least three years’ experience in medical/surgical setting required; endoscopy experience preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must have and maintain:
- Maine Registered Nursing license required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- CGRN certification encouraged

Physical Demands

- There will be extended periods of standing required when performing direct patient care.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The nature of the position may expose the Registered Nurse to moderate levels of tension when dealing with issues. The level of tension is usually moderate, with high levels of tension occurring occasionally.

- Pay grade 27
- $27.74 minimum
- $33.28 midpoint
- $38.83 maximum
