About the Role
As a Histotechnologist, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate preparation of tissue specimens following established laboratory protocols. Your work will directly support pathologists in diagnosing and treating patients, making attention to detail and adherence to safety standards essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross dissection and specimen processing while ensuring patient identification and specimen integrity.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure proper data documentation.
- Embed, section, and stain tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation.
- Perform and document quality control checks on H&E slides and special stains.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, and stainers.
- Ensure laboratory safety by adhering to infection control protocols and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Assist with laboratory inventory management and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Complete special projects and assignments as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science or equivalent with at least 60 semester hours in sciences preferred.
- Certification:
- HTL (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) certification required.
- Grandfathered grossing privileges if registered before April 24, 1995.
- If registered after April 24, 1995, an associate degree and five years of related experience are required.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of relevant experience in histology preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals and biological specimens.
- Standing for extended periods, operating equipment, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- OSHA Category A: Employees in this role will be offered Hepatitis B vaccination.

Compensation
- Minimum: $27.70/hour
- Maximum: $38.83/hour
- Pay is commensurate with education and experience
