GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Accounts Receivable Representative will perform Claims processing, charge posting, payment posting, and accounts receivable functions to support effective and efficient operations of Portland Gastroenterology Center’s Billing department and functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include any or all the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Accounts Receivable: Ensure claims settlement with private, commercial and government payers.
  • Answers patients’ questions regarding statements and insurance coverage.
  • Insurance Claims processing and remittance both paper and electronic.
  • Keep abreast of rules and medical coding terminology – CPT and ICD
  • Participates in maintaining inventories of department supplies.
  • Post charges and payments.
  • Assist/cover Prior Authorization process when necessary
  • Process online bill payment and credit card payments
  • Reconcile charge and payment postings
  • Special assignments or projects as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • 2-year degree or equivalent from an accredited institution minimum, 4-year degree preferred; or
  • Six months’ related experience and/or training minimum, twelve months preferred; or
  • equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPENSATION

  • Full-time (40 hours per week)
  • Lunches paid
  • Monday through Friday
  • Normal work hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm, however occasional need for overtime/early/late coverage may arise
  • Pay grade 20
    • $17.34 minimum
    • $21.67 midpoint
    • $26.00 maximum

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The nature of the position may expose the Medical Billing Representative to moderate levels of tension when dealing with issues. The level of tension is usually moderate, with high levels of tension occurring occasionally.

Per OSHA Regulations, any employee whose position classification falls into either Category A or B will be offered the Hepatitis B vaccination.
